The Orkana Wooden Nirlip - 1 is a wooden ladle-type utensil, size 1, the smallest in a series of five Orkana wooden nirlips. What A Nirlip Does: It is a traditional wooden stirring and serving spoon used in Kerala kitchens for cooking in clay chatti and steel uruli, where a metal spoon would scratch the pot and clatter. Size 1 Use: Being the smallest, it suits small pans and bowls, stirring a cup of kanji for a child, serving chutney and pachadi, or spooning ghee and payasam in small portions. Wood Advantages: Wood does not heat up in the hand, stays safe on non-stick and earthenware, and gives a gentle stir that keeps soft items like fish pieces and dumplings intact. Pick Your Size: The Orkana nirlip comes in sizes 1 to 5; size 1 is for small vessels, and the numbers go up for larger pots. Care Tip: Wash by hand soon after use, do not soak overnight, dry in shade and rub a little coconut oil into the wood occasionally to keep it from cracking in the dry season.
